“I acknowledged my sin to You, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,’ and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.”—Psalm 32:5
Our response to sin is not to cover it with a blanket of denial, a veil of secrecy or a robe of penance and good works. We are not to cover it but to strip it naked and exposed through confession before the Lord. It is the Lord who covers our nakedness and shame with His glory through forgiveness. Only He can take the shame we feel from our nakedness before others and the condemnation we feel from our guilt before God.
