I want to greet you on this Lord’s Day in the name of our Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
All week long we have been working and receiving the fruit of our labor. That is the normal pattern of life. Working to receive, planting to harvest, investing to gain a return, building a bed in order to rest upon it.
But as we come together on this Lord’s Day, God has called His people together to receive what has already been given. This is a special day. We come to receive what we did not earn; to enjoy the fruits of Another’s labor, to drink from wells we did not dig, and eat from a harvest we did not plant.
God calls us into His presence to lavish us with love and grace bought and paid for by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are not only to receive this undeserved favor today, but this gathering is to serve as a reminder to all of us who are His children, that this is exactly what He is doing for us every other day of the week in the midst of all our striving and labor. AMEN.
